It's a great post, and the dude can write! I'm lucky enough to game with people who need to be told that this should be a rule, and shudder to think about gaming with people who do.
Unfortunately I have 1 or 2 who absolutely love new games since it affords them a chance to blast me with rules. Fortunately, I have been on gaming hiatus since they picked up 4E, but we're going to move forward with Swords & Wizardry. It's going to be a shock for those two individuals since the only "old school" context they have is AD&D 2E. They thrived in the 3.X world, where everything is a little fiddly bit of character optimization. Don't get me wrong that's fun on a different level. But we're taking back our imaginations in this campaign.
